NEW FIRE STATION PLANNING APPLICATION

The application for a new fire station at Sniperley has been lodged. This link goes to the documents:

I had a meeting when the pre-application came in and raised issues about landscaping, the size of the building and the old site.

If anyone wants to discuss any aspect of it please feel free to get in touch.

My comment to the press is below:

Councillor Mark Wilkes who has previously met with Fire Officers about the application over landscaping, lighting and the use of the current site said he was pleased with the reduction in the size of the buildings and extra work now planned to boost greenery around the site since the initial consultation. However he still has some concerns about landscaping issues because the site is within the Greenbelt and there is loss of mature country hedging.

“I am know that the Fire Authority has listened to residents concerns. They committed to ensuring that local residents were consulted properly, and have made amendments to plans already after suggestions from myself, officers and residents.”

“They have also agreed to plant oak trees, hawthorn hedging and over two dozen other native plant species, all of which will be beneficial to wildlife. However there are still more landscaping issues which need to be looked at and this application must be considered as an absolutely exceptional deviation from the principles of Greenbelt development.

Mark added “Hopefully the old site on Finchale Road in Framwellgate Moor will be developed for sustainable affordable and social housing.”
