We have asked for further enforcement action to stop pavement parking opposite the shops on the single width pavement.
It is dangerous and unnecessary. We are monitoring how many tickets are being issued to be certain that action is taking place.
Confirmed: Ghyllfield, Flambard, Frankland and Brackenfield set for road resurfacing thanks to Lib Dem pressure
Our campaign to get roads in this part of Framwellgate Moor has been successful. The Council has confirmed that in the Spring/Summer this year all these roads will be resurfaced.
This is great news after our repeated requests for action including patching works.
We have asked for various areas to be checked to see if additional patching is required first and will be checking out if anything else should be done as well.
If the Labour-run council was investing properly in our roads we would have no doubt already seen these streets done, thankfully our continued pressure has ensured they stayed at the top of the list for action.
POST OFFICE UPDATE
Someone commented to me that the post office mobile service in Framwellgate Moor had stopped. I have checked and had it confirmed that it is still running.
The times are now 13.45-15.15 on Tuesdays and Thursdays outside the front of the Community Centre. There is parking at the rear of the community centre.
Please do use it. The Post Office and ourselves continue to try and find a permanent solution but so far no one has taken up the mantle.
Where’s the pedestrian island gone between Fram and Pity Me? Update
It turns out the street lighting department removed it not highways or traffic. I am asking for a speedy replacement.
Dryburn Hill footpath rebuild underway
The next part of Dryburn Hill footpath rebuild works has started. We have been working on getting the area done for many years and last year the first section was completed. This year after being told only part of what was left was being done we decided to provide some funding to get a bit more done.
After initially being given prices which were way over the top by the Labour-run council, we challenged the quotes and got the price halved, and now another stretch is to have the flagstones removed and get a full rebuild.
This leaves one more part which we will be pushing for action on in the coming year.
Reporting clean ups across the area
We have been on our regular walkabouts and reported issues across the area, including trip hazards on pavements, potholes, build up of leaves and other rubbish on paths, flytipping to name a few.

Takeaway disgrace continues
No doubt soon to blow over the Front St. I have yet again had to ask for enforcement action. It’s really taking the mickey that these businesses continue to get away with this.
Acton demanded on Garden Avenue fire house
The one property which hasn’t been renovated on Garden Avenue after the fire last year is an utter disgrace.
We have asked the Council to take urgent action against the owner to ensure the site is safe and cleaned up and will be chasing this up very regularly. It is simply not acceptable to have sites like this anywhere in the County.
Framwellgate Moor litter pick reinstated after Lib Dem intervention
We reported last week that we’ve had no litter picks from Friday afternoon to Monday on Framwellgate Moor Front Street for the last month and it’s really been noticeable.
The Labour-run council made these changes without any consultation or even telling us as councillors.
As soon as we found out we kicked into action and I’m very pleased to say that the afternoon litter pick on a Friday has been reinstated so bins will not be overflowing all weekend and litter will not be left flying around the place.
If we hadn’t intervened as your Lib Dem councillors Framwellgate Moor would have started to go back to as it was when we had Labour councillors. Those who lived around here 10 years ago will remember the horrendous state of the litter. It’s never possible to get it perfect but our actions on this and on the takeaways should continue to keep it tidier than would otherwise be the case.

Brackenfield Road driveways well on their way – looking great – another Local Lib Dem success
Houses and flats along Brackenfield Road which are owned by Durham City Homes (Former Council houses) are currently getting new driveways and parking areas installed thanks to the work of your Lib Dem councillors.
The street has horrendous parking problems, to the extent that its almost impossible even to get a road sweeper or refuse wagon safely down it on many days. All this is now changing and should make life much easier for all residents on the street. It follows our success in getting similar schemes in Lilac Avenue, Hudspeth Crescent and The Avenue.
This should have been done when Labour were running council housing, but like so many things it didn’t. We continue to work with Durham City Homes (Durham Housing Group) to improve our area and hope for more successes in the future.
