To make sure that everything is fully transparent, I list below the expenses and allowances (wage) I receive as a councillor.
All County Councillors receive a basic wage each year of £13300. This, like any other income is taxable. In addition if you are Chair or Vice-Chair of a committee or a cabinet member (special responsibility allowances), or you sit on an outside body like the fire authority you receive an additional allowance. Finally councillors can claim for travel expenses including travel to training conferences and subsistence at these events.
